David Warden
David is co-owner of PowerTri.com. He is the creator of the Tri Talk Triathlon Podcast, the former vice-president of the USAT Rocky Mountain Regional Council, Elite coach and on the Board of Advisers for Joe Friel's TrainingBible Coaching. His freelance writing has appeared in Triathlete and Inside Triathlon magazines, as well as several regional publication. He was a USAT All American for 2008. David dreams of someday being faster than his employees.
Grant Lerdahl
Grant has been mountain biking and road cycling since 2002 because he loved the exercise. He joined the high school swim team in 2004 because his best friends were on the team and had great abs. Grant's abs didn't get any better, but he started doing triathlons that fall. For Grant, triathlons are an experiment to see how good he can get, and he loves the workouts. He has done 28 short course triathlons, winning 8, and completing one Half Ironman. He has been the president of the BYU Triathlon Club/Team during the past year.
James Lawrence
Originally from Canada, James was introduced to triathlon by a close friend who said James would never be as fast as he was. That simple challenge has turned into a passion for the sport. He been racing now since 2005 and absolutely loves it. He has created his own little quest called "Tri and Give a Dam". In 2010 he will be competing in over 20 half ironman races to raise awareness to build dams and help with the water crisis in other parts of the world.
Jameson King
Jameson recently returned from placing 10th American at the ITU Sprint World Championships in Australia. He started into triathlons in 2005 with little-to-no experience in any of the disciplines of triathlon, but has now turned these weaknesses into strengths, especially swimming and biking. In early 2008 he created the BYU Triathlon Club and later progressed it to become a competing team.
Jameson is preparing to be competitive in his first half Ironman in 2010 as well as his focus of qualifying for the World Championships that will be held in Beijing, China in 2011.
Jesse Sund
Jesse's motto is 'Live the Dream'. And he does that everyday. Three years ago, Jesse left his career in Florida, moved to Colorado and began to focus solely on making his dream of qualifying for Kona a reality. He has competed in two IM 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater, Florida in 2006 and 2007 which catapulted him forward in his quest. His main focus now is on training for his 2010 qualifying race at IM Coeur d'Alene and then completing his summer with a local Tri-Series culminating with the new IM 70.3 in Boulder, Colorado. Jesse has recently started training with TriYogaEndurance.Com whose motto is 'Race Hard, Race Often, Recover Intelligently' and hopes that his new coach, Leo Jenkins, along with the support of Team PowerTri will be the recipe for success on the road to Kona.
Keena Schaerrer
Keena is an experienced triathlete and coach, ranked nationally as an All American. She has qualified and competed at the World Championships for both Ironman 70.3 and ITU Olympic distances as well as completed Ironman Coeur d’Alene, Ironman Arizona, Ironman New Zealand and Ironman St. George where she qualified to compete in the Ironman World Championships in Kona this fall. She will be also be competing once again at the ITU World Championship a month earlier in Budapest.
When Keena is not kicking butt at triathlons, she is training and coaching athletes. She has coached over 500 athletes. With experience as a triathletes, trainer, coach, wife and mother of four children, she understands the effort, challenges, and sacrifices involved with each of her clients.
Kim Shattuck
Kim is a wife, mother of two athletic boys, and full time RN at a major teaching hospital in Boston, MA. Her husband shows his support by taking good care of her and her bike (bike mechanic). With no background in any of the disciplines in triathlon, she entered her first race in 2007. With little organized training and less than ideal preparation, she struggled through and finished top five in her age group. Never having competed in any kind of athletic event, all it took was one race and she was hooked!
She started training more seriously in 2008 with the help of Coach David (see above) and had a great season in 2009. She not only won a bunch of local triathlons, but competed in the Olympic Distance World Championships in Australia. She also finished the year as an All American. This year her focus has been on short distances, but will be competing in the Timberman 70.3 in New Hampshire this August.
Leslie Howlett
2010 will be Leslie's 11th season racing triathlon. She started at 15 years old after being encouraged by her high school swim coach to try a tri, and fell in love! She came into the sport as a competitive swimmer and quickly picked up a love for running. Leslie raced in the 2001 USAT National Triathlon Championships, placing 8th in her age group. Leslie has placed top 3 in her age group in 90% of the races she's competed in, and won the Daybreak Triathlon last year after a 3 month hiatus from training due to breaking her foot in an earlier race that summer. She's competed in over 50 triathlons including 2 half ironman races, has completed 3 marathons, numerous half marathons, and competed in her first 140.6, Ironman St George on May 1 of this year.
Leslie is the proud mom of 3 awesome kids and has a great hubby who helps make all this training and racing possible.
Sarah Jarvis
Sarah grew up in Germany with parents who put a lot of emphasis on being active. She did gymnastics, swam, ran track, and went on many family bike rides during her childhood. At the age of 16, she joined her local triathlon club and has been loving training for and racing in triathlons ever since. She came to
Utah as an exchange student in 1998 and then again in 2002 to attend BYU where she met Karl Jarvis. They have been married since 2004 and love their two wild boys, Noah and Max. When the kids are not cheering for their parents in a triathlon or running race, they enjoy exploring all nature as to offer, and camping.
Sarah has loved being part of the Utah triathlon community and is happy to call her competition her friends as well. In 2009 Sarah has overall wins at 9 out of 10 triathlons she competed in and is hoping to have another great season in 2010.
Scott Poteet
As a native of New Hampshire, Scott’s athletic career began with a state championship victory in X-C. Scott elected to stay local to run X-C and track at the University of NH. With a five mile PR of 24:53, 10K PR of 31:12, and a marathon PR of 2:37, Scott’s triathlon interest eventually began during the summer months while lifeguarding on the beaches of Cape Cod.
Scott has spent the last 14 years as a pilot flying F-16s all over the world. His last assignment was flying the #4 aircraft for the USAF Thunderbirds. With a primary interest in the Ironman distance, Scott has completed eight Ironman’s to include; Switzerland, Austria, Lake Placid, Coeur d’Alene, Arizona, Canada, St George, and Kona. Scott is a member of the Air Force Triathlon team competing in the Olympic distance (1:54 PR) and the Ironman. Scott resides in Colorado Springs with his wife Kristin, and their kids Lily, Madie, and Logen.
Spencer Woolston
Spencer played college football for Snow Junior College in the 1995 and 1998 seasons and for Southern Utah University in 1999 and 2000. After completing his college football eligibility Spencer moved away from competitive athletics and focused on work and family until 2008 when he did the St. George Marathon, his first race. Spencer was immediately hooked on the endurance high from running and wanted more to feed his endurance appetite.
Spencer signed up for the Florida Ironman, got a bike for Christmas and began the tortuous process of learning how to swim. He competed in his first triathlon in 2009 finishing the season with a 9:19 time at Ironman Florida. He has become more and more addicted to the sport. While racing at the St. George IRONMAN in May of this year, he qualified for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, HI. He loves the training and describes himself as a "happy slave to triathlon". Spencer feels very lucky to have the great support of his friends from PowerTri. With Spencer being new to the sport, their knowledge of multisport has helped him immensely.
